Love Letters, an exhibition of artworks using text, has been curated for Gallerytop by Wirksworth-based printmaker Bernie Rutter.
Originally from the West Midlands Bernie says that from early childhood she has been fascinated by industrial process, by the alchemy of change, by pressure, by heat, by the intervention of human invention.
“As an artist I am excited by the use of text across a variety of techniques and processes, from modern and tradition printmaking, through to painting, ceramics and glass,” she said.
“From the obvious use of letters into words, to the more playful use as abstract shapes and found form, through to the veiling of text into the painted surface.
“Sometimes the message is obvious, sometimes hidden, sometimes just for fun!”
In this show there will be work by 17 diverse artists including Bernie herself. The others are Jo Sweeting, Sarah Rushton, Rob Chapman, Graeme Reed, Mary Kuper, Jeremy James, Sharon Baker, Charles Shearer, Smallprint Company – Hannah and Chris Barker, Vitor Azevedo, JFK Turner, Geoff Litherland, Val Hudson, Curiousa & Curiousa and Martin Leedham.
The show will be launched on February 8, and from 11am you will be able to print your own letters of love with the magical Letterpress experience with Hannah and Chris from Smallprint Company.
The gallery is open Tuesday to Saturday from 10am-5pm and Sundays from 11am-4pm. The exhibition runs until March 8.
