The UK Theatre Awards are on the hunt again to find the UK’s Most Welcoming Theatre 2018.
They are the only nationwide awards to honour outstanding achievement in theatre throughout the UK and this year’s ceremony will again take place at London’s historic Guildhall.
Julian Bird, Chief Executive of UK Theatre, said: “Theatres play a vital role in communities across the UK, so it has been wonderful to see so many votes cast. This award brings together audiences, theatres, performers and producers and gives everyone the opportunity to celebrate their local venue.”
Buxton Opera House won the regional award for the East Midlands in 2015 and 2016 but were unfortunately pipped at the post last year. They, along with Derby Theatre, are in the running again this year and the staff are asking you to help them win it again.
“With 175 venues across the country competing to take home the award we would love it if you could vote for us, it’s also chance for you to be entered into a draw to win £250 in Theatre Tokens,” said a spokesperson for the Opera House.
“In the last year we have helped nurture local talent in our wonderfully received production of West Side Story, which we hope to be the first of many similar productions.
“Our Learning and Participation department have developed a whole brand new exciting programme for young theatre fans, such as our Young Company productions and also our workshops throughout the summer and beyond.”
This is a great opportunity for audiences to celebrate their local theatre and all that they do for the community. The 12 Regional and National winners of the vote will be announced on September 28. and the overall winner of the award will be announced at the UK Theatre Awards on October 14.
The public vote can vote 12:00 on September 18.
