Simon Gill, the general manager at Cromford Mills will be giving a spectacular talk – Life On Ice – at the historic complex on March 15 about his time in Antarctica.
Before joining Cromford Mills Simon spent 25 years working for the British Antarctic Survey in many varied roles including as carpenter, dog handler, field guide, and base commander at Rothera and Halley research stations.
His current commute to Cromford is five miles. Before he faced a bit longer journey – Antarctica was 10,350 miles from the UK.
You can join Simon at 7pm in the Gothic Warehouse as he talks about his two winters in Antarctica, and the challenges of working in a hostile environment with his 24 bearded colleagues and 36 hairy huskies.
Life on Ice at Cromford Mills will have a small charge of £7.50, which will include cheese and wine plus entry. There are limited place and advanced booking is recommended.
