Peak District Artisan Ingrid K Karlsson is to stage a special one-night only exhibition of her Moon Almanac series at Cromford Studio and Gallery on January 5.
The launch event will be from 7pm-9.30pm and it is the first time all 12 pieces of work will have been seen together. Limited edition prints will then be available at the gallery in January.
Ingrid has bee working on the almanac since appearing on BBC Countryfile last January. The work took her through the whole first year of settling into a new home and another phase as an artist.
“As a mixed media artist I enjoy telling stories inspired by memories, experiences, literature, landmarks and history,” explained Ingrid.
“My favoured techniques create rich, colourful, textures using mono-printing, stitching and collage in translucent colour media. Words are often incorporated adding another dimension to the visual elements.
In 2017 I was invited to feature on BBC’s Countryfile as a narrative artist “resident in the Peak District. Filming took place on location in the High Peak as well as in my own studio setting.
“The idea of a Moon Almanac evolved from my move to a new area and the first year of settling in a different environment. January’s Wolf Moon was inspired by the local peak and landmark and provided a case study suitable for the television programme.
“As a remarkable coincidence the TV crew arrived on the morning of January’s full moon with a magic landscape covered in thick snow.
“This memorable experience sparked off a new series based on moon cycles, a fascinating way of responding to life as it evolves.”
Ingrid also has Moon Almanac calendars available at the gallery or you can click here to buy one
