QUAD has Christmas wrapped up

QUAD in Derby has Christmas entertainment all wrapped up this December with classic, comedy, family-friendly and cult films, plus screenings at Derby Cathedral.

There will be Christmas-themed family friendly workshops and a live theatre event. In QUAD Café, customers can get in the festive spirit with a special menu and speciality hot chocolates.

Christmas films include: Gremlins, a yuletide classic from 1984 starring Zach Galligan.  Zach Galligan will be in QUAD for a Q&A following the screening. Gremlins (12A) with Zach Galligan Q&A takes place on December 3, at 7pm.

Holiday Inn, from 1942, is a perennial Christmas favourite that paired Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire as entertainers, and rival suitors for Marjorie Reynolds, running an inn that is only open on the holidays. The film features a host of singing and dancing courtesy of Irving Berlin, including the first film appearance of the yuletide classic ‘White Christmas’. Holiday Inn (U) screens at QUAD from December 10-13.

In A Bad Moms Christmas under-appreciated and overburdened moms Amy, Kiki and Carla rebel against the challenges and expectations of Christmas. As if creating the perfect holiday for their families isn’t hard enough, they’ll have to do it while hosting and entertaining their own respective mothers when they come to visit A Bad Moms Christmas (15) screens in QUAD on December 15, at 12:05pm and 8:45pm, December 16, at 9:10pm and December 21, at 8:55pm.

The Man Who Invented Christmas tells the magical journey that led to the creation of Ebenezer Scrooge (Christopher Plummer), with Tiny Tim and other classic characters from A Christmas Carol. The Man Who Invented Christmas (PG) screens in QUAD from December 15-21.

In Trading Places, two super-rich siblings place a bet on the eternal debate ‘Nature or Nurture’. They take privileged managing director (Dan Ackroyd), fire him from his job and cast him out of his elite social circle. Then take a small-time street hustler (Eddie Murphy) and bring him into the fold. Trading Places (15) screens at QUAD on December 15, at 6:10pm and December 16 at 9pm.

It’s A Wonderful Life is one of QUAD Christmas traditions. Set on Christmas Eve, the guardian angel Clarence is assigned to convince the desperate George Bailey not to take his own life. George is a thoroughly decent family man who has sacrificed his dreams for the citizens of the small town of Bedford Falls. When George decides he is worth more dead than alive, it’s up to Clarence to help him realise how many lives his good deeds have touched. It’s A Wonderful Life (U) screens at QUAD from December 17-24.

Die Harder Double Bill includes Die Hard starring Bruce Willis as NYPD cop John McClane, who takes a trip to LA to see his estranged wife and spend Christmas with his kids. But gets stuck in a skyscraper with a bunch of German terrorists. In Die Hard 2 John McClane is waiting for his wife’s plane to arrive in Washington DC when he gets word that terrorists have taken over the airport. It is up to McClane to stop the bad guys and save the planes from crashing. Die Hard & Die Hard 2: Die Harder Double Bill (15) screens on December 22 and 23.

QUAD will be presenting a live theatre version of A Christmas Carol with Lost Boys Theatre company on December, at 7.30pm.

There will be Cine Kids film screenings of Arthur Christmas and Paddington 2. When one little boy is missed out on Christmas Eve, it is up to Arthur Christmas, Santa’s young son, to save Christmas with a rebellious young elf, a retired Grandfather Christmas, an old sleigh and some very untrained reindeer. Arthur Christmas (U) screens at QUAD on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th December. In Paddington 2 the Bear is back and now settled into his life with the Browns. He takes on a series of odd jobs to buy the perfect present for his Aunt Lucy’s 100th birthday, only for the gift to be stolen! Paddington 2 (PG) screens in QUAD from December 20-January 2.

QUAD will be presenting screenings at Derby Cathedral. Scrooge, from 1951, features arguably the definitive portrayal of Ebenezer Scrooge as played by Alistair Sim. Also starring George Cole, Michael Hordern, Patrick Macnee and Meryn Johns this adaptation of ‘A Christmas Carol’ is an unmissable classic. Christmas Scrooge (U) At Derby Cathedral screens on  December 23, at 6:30pm (doors are open from 6pm).

QUAD also has a Christmas-themed family friendly workshop. Winter Wonderland Minecraft is a family friendly workshop for young people to create, share and explore a winter world on QUAD’s own Minecraft server. A perfect opportunity for mum and dad to get that Christmas shopping done, the workshop is suitable for children aged five and above, those under eight years must be accompanied. Winter Wonderland Minecraft workshop takes place in QUAD on December 16, from 11am-4pm.

A fun filled family Christmas Disco, aimed at under fives, includes disco, games, craft activities, sensory area and dancing with Derby based children’s dance club Diddy Hoppers. Xmas jumpers and/or fancy dress is encouraged. Older siblings are welcome, all children must be accompanied. Listen Love Learn: Christmas Disco takes place in QUAD on December 16, 11am-2pm.
