Continuing the legend of the King of Skiffle, The Lonnie Donegan Story is coming to Chesterfield’s Winding Wheel on October 1.
Hosted by Lonnie’s son Peter – performing all his father’s million-selling hits and tenderly recounting Lonnie’s life story – and featuring never-before-seen family film footage, the brand-new production is backed by the original band that toured with Lonnie for 30 years.
Pit is being produced by theatre show producers GRT Entertainments and the company’s MD Pete Tobit promises charismatic performances of Lonnie’s classic hits.
“From Rock Island Line to Pick a Bale of Cotton, Cumberland Gap to Have a Drink on Me, Puttin’ on the Style to Tom Dooley it’s a night of non-stop hits” said Pete.
“As well as faithfully performing everyone’s favourites, including the foot-stomping fun of Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavour and My Old Man’s a Dustman, there’s also a fistful of Peter’s own sensational compositions to enjoy.”
Pete Tobit adds that combining the music with touching narration and exclusive film footage of Lonnie performing live makes for an unforgettable theatrical experience.
“The legend of Ivor Novello award winner and MBE Lonnie Donegan lives on,” he says. “live on stage.”
The show starts at 7.30pm. Go to http://www.chesterfieldtheatres.co.uk for ticket details.
