Sensational Salsa is back for a brand new autumn season at The Old Clubhouse, Buxton, offering a six-week course aimed at beginners starting on Tuesday September 6 from 7.30pm.
Classes normally cost £5 each on a pay-as-you-go basis but newcomers are being offered six weeks’ classes for a bargain £25.
Says organiser Linval Smith: “This is the ideal time to start at the beginning and pick up the basics. After six weeks you’ll start feeling confident about social dancing in time for Christmas parties. There is no need for a partner as we will swap around, and women are welcome to take on the male role.”
Linval and partner Justine are also hoping to explore other Latin dance styles such as Bachata, a slow, sultry dance from the Dominican Republic. “It’s even easier than salsa to learn and great to watch too”, says Linval.
Salsa regulars will have the chance to remind themselves of familiar moves and Linval will also be teaching new routines and looking to move more experienced dancers up to the Improvers’ class. This comes straight after the Beginners’ class on the same night with an overlap when both groups come together at 8.30pm for an enjoyable freestyle dance section.
Both classes feature Linval’s excellent choice of music ranging from Cuban styles to pop, jazz and soul and the pub setting means there is always an opportunity for a drink at the bar afterwards.
Adds Linval: “We have people who have been coming for years because it is such a good way to keep fit and have a lovely, sociable time while you are at it.”
