This autumn, Derby Theatre and the Mercury Theatre Colchester will present Stephen Sondheim’s multi award-winning musical thriller, Sweeney Todd, and they are on the lookout for members of the community to join the cast.
Anyone interested is being invited to book an audition slot to join the company for the run of the production in Derby, an opportunity to work with the Mercury Theatre’s Artistic Director, Daniel Buckroyd (Director); Michael Haslam (Musical Director); Cressida Carre (Movement Director); Lekan Lawal (Derby Theatre’s Assistant Director) and a professional cast and creative team. They are looking for performers aged 18 and over and of all genders and ethnicities to be involved in various scenes and musical numbers and playing a range of different character roles.
The theatre will be holding four, hour-long audition workshops on August 24 between 6pm and 10pm at the rehearsal space on Green Lane in Derby.
Auditionees will be required to sing and learn a small piece of movement during the workshop, but do not need to prepare anything in advance. Comfortable clothing for the audition is required and those auditioning will be asked to make their way directly to Green Lane for their audition.
Sweeney Todd community member rehearsals will run from August 30-September 24 in the evenings and possibly on some weekend dates. A full and detailed rehearsal and technical schedule is still to be confirmed but community performers will also need to be available to attend some daytime technical and dress rehearsals during the production week, which runs from September 26-30.
Community performer roles are unpaid, but a small amount of free tickets for the production will be offered to community members as a thank you gesture. If you are interested, and feel you have what it takes to become a community member of the Sweeney Todd company, you can book an audition slot by calling the Derby Theatre Box Office on 01332 593939.
