Derby LIVE has today announced three of the stars who will be appearing in this year’s pantomime Cinderella at Derby Arena in December.
West End star, TV and radio presenter, stand-up comic, and TV actor, Richard Blackwood is sure to bring comedy capers and his years of experience to the family show when he plays everyone’s favourite character, Buttons.
Richard first set his sights on entertaining at the tender age of eight, after watching the legendary comic Richard Pryor live in concert.
Critically acclaimed and a regular face on the comedy circuit, Richard was catapulted into the limelight with his own Channel 4 programme, The Richard Blackwood Show. A culmination of comedic improvisation, celebrity interviews and music, the show allowed Richard to demonstrate his emerging lyrical talent.
Appearances on Ant and Dec’s Saturday Night Take Away, Holby City, Casualty, Britannia High, EastEnders and Ed Stone is Dead, plus the hit movie Anuvahood have made him a household name and kept him busy on the large and small screen.
A number three hit Mama Who Da Man show-cased Richard’s talents in a new light and also saw him host Top of the Pops and The Smash Hits Awards.
In 2009 Richard turned his attention to stage work, treading the boards at London’s Novello Theatre in the Tennessee Williams’ Pulitzer prize-winning classic Cat on a Hot Tin Roof. He went on to wow critics and West End audiences alike when he starred at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane as Donkey in the box office smash-hit Shrek the Musical for 715 sell-out performances until the show’s close in 2013.
In 2015 Richard joined the cast of EastEnders as smooth operator Vincent Hubbard. He made his debut in the thrilling live episode in February 2015 during a week of celebrations to mark the hit soap opera’s 30th birthday.
Richard Blackwood said: “I am so excited to be joining the cast of Cinderella at Derby Arena. I always have so much fun on stage and love having laughs with the audience. The show is staged by award-winning producers and will be a real spectacle sure to deliver big fun, energy, music and entertainment!’
Pantomime producer Paul Holman said: “I am delighted to have secured such a brilliant actor as Richard to play Buttons. It’s the perfect part for him to showcase his warmth, energy, enthusiasm and big personality and will give him every opportunity to dish out his quick-fire one-liners, charm and mischievous behaviour!”
TV-sensation Eilish O’Carroll who plays the hilarious Winnie McGoogan in much-loved sitcom Mrs Brown’s Boys will be the panto’s fairy godmother and Lloyd Warbey, all-round entertainer and presenter of the classic children’s show, Art Attack is taking the part of Dandini.
