Sue Prince exhibits at Cathedral Centre

egg womanWinter’s Tale is Sue Prince’s title for an exhibition being staged at in the Sir Richard Morris Lounge at Derby Cathedral Centre throughout December and January.

Sue, a rural artist, working at her family’s organic Beechenhill Farm, near Ilam, was captivated by the style of Swedish Folk Art of the 18th Century when farmers decorated their houses during the long winter months with hangings depicting Biblical subjects and scenes from local life. Reviving their technique of egg tempera painting on linen her narrative paintings are of people, urban and rural, working, celebrating and protesting at the present time, though in a style derived from her Swedish inspiration.

“In Winter’s Tale I share both the traditional old English Christmas images and responses to winter in recent events,” said Sue when talking about her work.

The gallery is open 9am-5pm Monday to Saturday but closed on Sundays.
