After many years spent travelling the world with their amazing shows, Les Commandos Percu combine their talents and know-how with a clear objective: to reclaim the streets… so the thousands of people who attend Derby Festé each year are in for a real treat!
Out of nowhere, drummers march towards each other pounding stretched skins. Street to street, their drumsticks twirl, their colourful faces sizing each other up for a confrontation of rhythm and light. What will be the outcome of the clash? The sole purpose of this symbolic confrontation is to turn collision into interaction, to sublimate fury into language, to light the unifying fire that brings hearts together.
The heart-stopping culmination to this not-to-be-missed show will see a wild parade through the crowds by blazing musicians who will climb onto the stage for a clash of drums.
They will light a huge fire that seems to burst from their instruments, as if every percussion note sparks an explosion in the starry sky. But this is just a transition point. After their on-stage performance, the black and yellow devils will again take to the street and disappear into the night just as they came: surrounded by fire.
Stephen Munn, director of Déda and artistic lead for Derby Festé said: “It’s amazing to me that Derby Festé has been animating the streets of Derby since 2007.
“We’re just finalising this year’s programme but I’m delighted that Les Commandos Percu – who last brought their explosive blend of percussion and pyrotechnics to Derby Festé in 2010 – will present the UK premiere of their latest show on Bass’ Rec.”
More programme details for Derby Festé 2015 will be available soon – including the announcement of more international, national and local street acts and performances plus information about the return of the Splash Stage, a platform during Festé which showcases the very best of talent in the region.
