Ticket booking opens to the public today and artsbeat is offering two lucky readers the chance to each win a pair of tickets to the opera of their choice.

Olivier award-winning Elijah Moshinsky, who has previously directed productions for the Metropolitan Opera, New York, and Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, will be directing Giovanna d’Arco and the Northern Chamber Orchestra will be conducted by Stuart Stratford.

Australian soprano Kate Ladner, who had her debut at the Derbyshire festival in 2012 is taking the role of Giovanna in Verdi’s interpretation of the story of Joan of Arc.

Dido and Aeneas is a co-production between The English Concert and Bristol Old Vic being sung in English.

It is an innovative, candle-lit staging of Henry Purcell’s first opera produced by Tom Morris and John Retallack.

Celebrated South African soprano Pumeza Matshikiza plays the abandoned Queen of Carthage, and rising star David Stout is the Trojan hero.

Charpentier’s Louise is a love letter both to the idea of romance itself and to the city of Paris, shocking in its time in for its advocacy of free love and its revolutionary score.

Louise, a Parisian seamstress, is in love with Julien, a young poet, despite the disapproval of her working-class parents. She must chose between love and family duty.
