Holy Week coup for Glossop

judas the departureIn a first for Glossop the  Parish Church is hosting an exhibition of a series of 14 paintings by the town’s internationally acclaimed artist Ghislaine Howard entitled Stations of the Cross: The Captive Figure. (see Judas, The Departure, above)

During the exhibition there will be two evenings with talks by Ghislaine and her husband Michael about the inspiration for the paintings.They will form a setting for the Holy Week celebrations and Ghislaine’s culminating work, The Empty Tomb, will be situated in the Memorial Chapel.

Also during the exhibition on Easter Monday, April 6, at 6.30pm there will be a performance of Bach’s St John Passion with members of the Glossop Festival Orchestra, conducted by Christopher George, led by Matthew Truscott and featuring nine of the country’s leading singers: Elin Manahan Thomas, Alice Gribbin, Alex Gibson, Martha Mclorinan, Nicholas Mulroy, Jeremy Budd, Robert Davies, Matthew Brook and William Kendall.
