An enterprising group of artists from the High Peak have teamed up to help extend the repertoire of the already very successful Studios Gallery, New Mills, by offering a full programme of Creative Classes to the public.

The brand new workshop programme starts on Saturday 28th February and classes are already being booked up until May this year. Classes currently on offer include Life Drawing, Mosaic, Pastel Painting and Collage, with dates for Watercolour Painting, Printmaking and Writing Workshops to follow soon.

The Studios has shown the work of more than 30 national and international artists during the last 12 months and has featured the work of many award winning names including; David Shrigley (Turner Prize Nominee 2013), Maggie Hargreaves (John Ruskin Drawing Prize Winner 2014) and Bartosz Beda (shortlisted for Saatchi New Sensations 2012). The gallery also hosts many other events from music to performance and poetry and artists talks and provides studio space for artist Lyn Bannister and printmaker Arthur Burns. More recently the space is also being used as a meeting place for voluntary organisations and become a venue for ‘Jelly’ the home workers and freelancers co-working group.

Gallery Owner Lyn says “The idea to extend the activities of the gallery even further came when Arthur started offering printmaking workshops on an informal basis. People started enquiring about other workshops so we decided to see if any local artists where interested in running classes. The interest has been fantastic both from those offering to run the classes and budding artists wanting to find ways to unlock their creativity. ”

Workshops range from short drop-in, intensive master-classes, courses running over several weeks to residential weekends and will be held in the large, light and airy gallery space. With classes tailored for artists of all abilities and numbers of participants kept deliberately low to ensure close attention, spaces are already filling up fast.

Details of all the classes can be found at www.thestudios.co or email info@thestudios.co or contact Lyn Bannister tel: 07753842861.
