Shoppers out on the streets of Chesterfield were doing a double take yesterday to make sure they weren’t seeing things as Cinderella, her Ugly Sisters, Fairy Godmother, Buttons and Prince Charming strolled past.
The glitzy characters were in town to promote this year’s rag to riches pantomime which is being staged at the Pomegranate Theatre from December 5 to January 4 and were posing for pictures in front of the famous twisted church spire.
The outrageous Louisa and Lavinia Hardup aka Dean Horner and Oliver Gray also took the opportunity to have some fun with the locals and promised that come December Chesterfield wouldn’t know what had hit it.
Glamorous Strictly Come Dancing star Camilla Dallerup is destined to be the Queen of the ballroom as she foxtrots into pantoland as the Fairy Godmother and fellow star Asa Elliott, who is best known as the cabaret singer in the hit ITV series Benidorm, will be the hunky heartthrob Prince Charming.
Buttons is being played by pantomime stalwart and impressionist Tony Rudd, who is rumoured to be practising some Strictly-linked impressions (I wonder who?) and the title role has gone to young actress Cara Dudgeon who has been dreaming of playing the part since she was six.
Paul Holman, of Paul Holman Associates, which is producing the festive show, said: “When you have someone with the dynamic dance skills and creative choreography of Camilla it opens up a whole new world of dance opportunities for the production.
“While we plan to stick to the traditional fairytale we are considering a mini Strictly dance-off at the Prince’s ball which will be high energy, high on comedy and would definitely get more than a seven from Strictly judges!”
