Assembly Rooms Fire, Derby

_73596574_de52Fire has destroyed a large part of Derby City’s Assembly Room Car Park this evening resulting in the cancellation of shows.Firefighters from three stations were on the scene, using water from the River Derwent to tackle the blaze to contain the fire.

Thick, acrid black smoke filled the air and could be seen across the city and out into parts of Derbyshire and the whole night sky glowed red.The fire did not spread to the Assembly Rooms and there were not thought to be any injuries associated with the fire but shows were cancelled.

The shows cancelled were Anton du Beke in the Great Hall and The Steve Tilston Trio in the Darwin Suite.

A spokeswoman for Derby Live said: “At present, the Guildhall Show tonight is scheduled to go ahead as planned, but the Assembly Rooms car park is out of use.

“The Assembly Rooms shows this weekend have now also been cancelled: on Saturday Beyond the Barricade and on Sunday, Grimethorpe Colliery Band.

“At present there is still no access to the Assembly Rooms car park and ticket holders for cancelled events are being contacted by our box office team.

“We will issue a further update as soon as more information becomes available.”
