Derby City Council’s Derby LIVE will work alongside other arts organisations in the city, including Déda, Derby Independent Theatre Network, Derby Theatre, Funhouse Comedy, Furthest From the Sea, QUAD and Sinfonia Viva, to organise over a week of events running from June 13-22.
Councillor Martin Repton, Derby City Council cabinet member for leisure and culture said: “Derby Comedy Festival is going to be a superb addition to the city’s cultural scene, bringing a host of fabulous acts to various venues around the City Centre this summer, and I’m proud to be involved.
“This is a first for Derby and it’s going to bring colour, energy and interest to this part of the country, really putting Derby on the map.
“We’re hoping that thousands of people will come along, both from within the city and much further afield, and thoroughly enjoy what is bound to be a summer of high quality comedy acts.
“The Festival will feature many comedy genres including: stand-up, improv, puppetry, children’s comedy, burlesque and theatre and will appeal to a wide range of audiences. With a programme packed full of the hottest comedic talent, from local comedians and actors to rising stars and household names, the festival will bring a host of vibrant and appealing events to Derby audiences.”
The Festival will take place in a range of venues including: Assembly Rooms – Great Hall, Darwin and ’45 Suite; Bar 1; Déda; Derby Theatre Studio; Guildhall Theatre and QUAD; along with an outdoor programme on the Market Place on Saturday June 21.
