Streamscape wins an award for photographer

Ice on RustLongnor photographer Michéla Griffiths has two reasons to celebrate this month. She has received a commendation in the Landscape Photographer of the Year 2013 competition for one of her Streamscapes and has been accepted as a new member of the Peak District Artisans.

The results of the prestigious competition were announced last week and  a print of her Ice on Rust will be exhibited at the awards show at the National Theatre in London which opens on December 7 and runs until February 8.

The image will also feature in the Awards book, Landscape Photographer of the Year Collection 7by AA Publishing, which is published on on October 31.

The past year has seen a change in direction for Michéla’s photography as she has worked on the Streamscapes – drawing inspiration from the River Dove and its tributary streams.

Michéla said: “I have combined my early love of drawing and painting with a long-standing passion for photographing the landscape and my Streamscapes turn incidental details into beautiful fine art prints that are sometimes mistaken for paintings.”

Featured earlier this year in Artsbeat magazine, Michéla has now built up a sizeable portfolio and she is delighted to have been accepted by the Peak District Artisans.

“I am looking forward to taking part in their events and exhibiting my work more widely over the next year,” she added.
