New Mills Festival aims to celebrate community spirit and put on a two-week event that is the highlight of the region’s calendar.
Last year some 5,000 people attended the lantern parade and it is thought many more will attend this year.
The two week festival is filled with a packed schedule of walks, talks, gigs, exhibitions and the famous lantern procession.
This year the team are hoping to find the funds to finance the lantern parade. The more money raised the more impressive the parade can be.
Lyn Bannister, festival co-ordinator, said: “The reason we have turned to crowdfunding is because it allows everyone to be involved in raising funds for their community festival. Also we, like everyone else, have been hard hit by cutbacks and funding via normal channels has been impossible to find.”
Crowdfunder enables people with a great business idea to ask the crowd closest to them for the funding they need to set up or expand.
The business sets a target for the money it wants to raise and explains how it will use the funding. People can then make pledges for small amounts of money in return for a reward if the target is reached.
The festival is organised by a committee of local artists, producers and business representatives. In 2012 nearly 5,000 people made their way down into the gorge carrying their lanterns accompanied by the pound of the New Mills Samba.
The organisers have teamed up with local food outlets who are offering some great rewards in return for investment into the project. For just £30 pledgers will receive a voucher for two to eat for free at a number of local eateries.
The festival starts on September 28 for two weeks.
The project has already reached 26 per cnet of the £1,000 and have 28 days left remaining to hit target. To make your pledge visit http://crowdfunder.co.uk/new-mills-festival-lantern-parade/
