X Factor’s Marcus Collins to star in Derby panto

marcus%20Collins%202012X Factor star Marcus Collins will be stepping into the shoes of the giant slayer in the panto Jack and the Beanstalk at Derby’s Assembly Rooms this Christmas.

The show is Signed, Sealed and Delivered,  the delighted Derby LIVE and Paul Holman Associates declared today, as they announced the casting of Marcus as Jack.

Described as one of the country’s finest vocalists and a rising star of theatre, Marcus sang his way into the nation’s hearts when he auditioned in the 2011 series of The X Factor with the Motown hit Signed, Sealed, Delivered I’m Yours.

With his modern day slick and sophisticated presence, his strong voice and even stronger sense of his own style, Marcus went from boot camp and judges houses to the live knock-out rounds.

Mentored by music legend Gary Barlow, entertaining and engaging with his winning personality and soulful singing, Marcus finished as runner-up to Little Mix, the first group to win the show, performing to a sold out Wembley Arena and more than 14 million viewers watching at home.

The X Factor Live tour followed before Marcus’s self titled album was released. With original material penned by the talented Liverpudlian, the album entered the UK charts at number seven and received massive critical acclaim, with Marcus being likened as the British Cee Lo Green and Bruno Mars.

Pantomime producer Paul Holman said: “Marcus brings a wealth of talent plus charm and charisma to the production of Jack and the Beanstalk.

“He’s been receiving great reviews and fabulous feedback from his appearance in the current UK tour of Hairspray and I’m thrilled he will be making his pantomime debut at the Assembly Rooms this Christmas.”

Peter Ireson for Derby LIVE said: “Derby LIVE is very excited to have secured Marcus to play Jack in Jack and the Beanstalk. He is an incredibly talented and popular performer who we know will attract and delight our younger audiences who are increasingly rediscovering what great fun and entertainment a quality pantomime can be.”

Marcus will be joining Derby’s favourite comic Mike McClean and the Midlands favourite dame Don Maclean when Jack and the Beanstalk opens at the Assembly Rooms from 4 December 2013 to 5 January 2014.

Tickets are available from the Derby LIVE Box Office on 01332 255800 or online at http://www.derbylive.co.uk with discounts available for early bookers.
