Verdi’s tragic opera at Buxton

Opera UK - La Traviata, RADA 12 & 14 Nov 2012ARTSBEAT OPERA: Opera UK will bring Verdi’s tragic masterpiece La Traviata to Buxton Opera House on Thursday May 16, one of the most popular of all 19th century operas.

La Traviata tells the tragic and gripping love story of Violetta, the famous courtesan forced to give up the love of her life, only to die in poverty, young and heartbroken. Opera UK’s new production will add a twist to the famous tale, with the adaptation set in Hitler’s Germany.

At the start of the piece we see that Violetta is the kept mistress of a Nazi officer, before she makes her tragic bid for freedom.

Following the great success of previous Opera UK productions, La Traviata boast their classic house style: beautifully played music by a chamber ensemble, stylish designs for the costumes and settings; and outstanding performances by the talented cast! The opera will be sung in English with a new translation.

La Traviata starts at 7.30pm and tickets are priced from £17 to £25.
