Japanese drummers take to the stage

Yamato%20pressARTSBEAT SHOWS: The thunderous Yamato drummers from Japan are returning to Buxton Opera House in March, (after a sell-out performance in 2008) with their new show, a heart-pounding display of Japanese Taiko drumming.

Yamato play Wadaiko drums that range from the size of a plate to over a metre in diameter, including the Odaiko drum, hewn from one huge tree over 400 hundred years old!

The sheer physical strength and movement of the drummers is as impressive as the music, promising audiences a spectacularly entertaining treat.

The company has now been touring the world for 20 years and has been seen by over two million people. As well as heart thumping bass power, Yamato’s music can also be delicate and beautiful, showing not only the drummers’ remarkable strength but also their skill and adaptability.

‘Dazzling. They fill the stage with huge beautiful drums and beat seven bells out of them at an unrelenting decibel level and with phenomenal skill. Simply breathtaking drumming.’ – Daily Telegraph
