Belper artists stage exhibition at Studio 61

studio 61BACARTSBEAT EXHIBITIONS: Artists in Belper have formed a new arts collaborative to provide a focal point for their peers within the town and the surrounding area.

One of the co-ordinating committee Suzanne Parnell said their aims were to offer a structured guide to what was happening in the arts community, promote the work of the town’s artists and pursue the idea of providing  studio and gallery space for creatives and to benefit  the town’s community

They will be also be organising the art strand as part of the first annual Belper Arts Festival in May. Among the highlights will be an art exhibition, workshops and an art auction at the Lion Hotel in Belper on May 12.

The Belper Arts Collaborative will also be linking with Creative Derbyshire to stage roadshows in the town and linking with a similar arts collaborative in Belper’s twin town of Pawtucket, USA.

This week the group of artists have opened their first exhibition together at Studio 61 Gallery, at Holloway, which offered to showcase their work in as a special community exhibition before the gallery’s main exhibitions start in the spring.

The Belper group are using the exhibition opportunity given by the gallery’s owner, Karina Goodman, to officially launch the collaborative.
