See Elsie and Norm’s Macbeth at Guildhall Theatre

Elsie_Norm_Artwork_-_courtyardThe delightfully funny comedy Elsie and Norm’s MacBeth will visit Derby LIVE’s Guildhall Theatre on  February 2, at 7.30pm.

Elsie and Norm live in Laburnum Avenue in any town in the UK. They believe that the one thing that is lacking amongst their neighbours is culture.

So the intrepid pair set about correcting this shortcoming by getting their hands on a copy of the play Macbeth written by ‘the greatest playwright what ever lived – Shakespeare’ with the intention of presenting the play in their own living room and inviting the neighbours to their home to watch it.

Firstly, however, there needs to be a little work done on the play to make it more understandable for the audience.

For example; there are too many words and the play needs to be shortened. Then there is the question of Shakespeare’s poetry – it doesn’t rhyme, and Norman thinks it should do, so he sets about the task.

Both Elsie and Norm intend to play all of the characters but how do they get around the difficulty when more than two characters appear at the same time? Needless to say the problem is overcome in a highly amusing way!
