The film being screened at 1pm (finishing about 2.30pm) is Quartet (12A), Dustin Hoffman’s directorial debut starring Tom Courtenay, Pauline Collins, Michael Gambon, Billy Connolly and Dame Maggie Smith.
This charming, funny and insightful film follows ageing opera singers and lifelong friends, Reggie, Cissy and Wilf, who reside in specialist retirement home with fellow music world retirees.
While they are planning their annual fundraising concert, the arrival of a fellow acquaintance, Jean, brings old differences to the fore.
There are also two Cine Babies screenings in February to look forward to. Hyde Park On Hudson is based on true events from a weekend in 1939, when the King and Queen of the United Kingdom visited Franklin D Roosevelt in upstate New York, the first visit of a British monarch to a US President.
Bill Murray portrays Franklin D Roosevelt with a lust for life as he navigates visiting royalty, impending war and a complicated relationship between his wife and his mistress. Laura Linney, Olivia Coleman and Samuel West add to the excellent cast.
Hitchcock is a love story about one of the most influential British film makers of the last century and his wife and partner Alma Reville, which takes place during the making of Hitchcock’s seminal movie Psycho. Starring Anthony Hopkins (as Hitch), Helen Mirren (as Alma Reville), Toni Collette (as Hitchcock’s long serving assistant), Scarlett Johansson (as Janet Leigh) and Jessica Biel (as Vera Miles).
Hyde Park On Hudson (12A) screens on Thursday February 14 at 1pm (ending at approx 2:34pm) and Hitchcock (12A) screens on Thursday February 28 at 1pm (ending at approx 2:38pm).
