QUAD in Derby will be introducing a new film strand, entitled Epic! to showcase some of the films you have to see at the cinema – from the biggest widescreen epics to the most visionary sci-fi adventures.
Hosted by Total Film contributor Simon Kinnear the first Epic! screening will be Lawrence Of Arabia on Sunday.
David Lean’s re-mastered masterpiece Lawrence Of Arabia is one of cinema’s grandest epics. This epic version was initially reconstructed in 1988 for a ‘Director’s Cut’, and has now been digitally restored. It will screen at QUAD in its original road-show format, with an overture, intermission, entrance and exit music.
Lawrence Of Arabia is the story of an idealistic young British officer in World War I, Lawrence (played by Peter O’Toole), who is assigned to the camp of Prince Feisal, an Arab tribal chieftain in a revolt against the Turks, played by Alec Guinness. In a series of brilliant tactical manoeuvres, Lawrence leads fifty of Feisal’s men in a tortured three week crossing of the Nefud Desert to attack the strategic Turkish held port of Aqaba, revealing Lawrence’s triumphant leadership and unyielding courage.
