Organiser Linval Smith said: “The free taster session represents a great opportunity for newcomers to come along and give it a go without any expense to themselves.
“People don’t realise what a great stress-buster salsa can be. When you are learning steps and new routines, you’re not thinking about anything else.”
Linval’s eclectic choice of music means that dancers find themselves shimmying to everything from Latin tracks to cool soul and pop.
The free introductory class will offer a fresh start for beginners and also for those who have attended some classes in the past but are feeling rusty.
“We will go right back to basics, so there’s no need to feel nervous,” added Linval.
“We have all ages, shapes and sizes in the classes – and you don’t need to bring a partner as people tend to dance with each other.”
The class will be followed by an improvers’ class at 8.30pm costing £5.
For those who become hooked, subsequent beginners’ and improvers’ classes cost £5 a session on a handy, pay-as-you-go basis.
Linval and dance partner Justine are hoping for a great turn out for the new year.
Says Linval: “The more people come, the more sociable it becomes with dancers usually liking to stay for a drink in the bar afterwards.”
