It’s the third day of my new life running my own new business with my new name Amanda Penman. For longer than I care to remember I have been employed as either a reporter, news editor or editor of a variety of regional newspapers. I ended that career – Amanda Hatfield, group editor of the Matlock Mercury – three months ago.
I have been lucky enough to have had the summer off and have just returned from my wedding and honeymoon touring in Italy. Hence the name change.
As you will be able to read above in the “about” section of this blog I have a passion for the arts and Derbyshire and the Peak District so when I was considering what to do with the rest of my working life it was easy to decide on creating a magazine to celebrate the flourishing arts community in the county.
I am planning a free monthly publication which will hopefully be available at all the best arts venues around. I will be using my own creative skills to write features about artists and their work, festivals, exhibitions, theatre, films, books, photography and anything else you might want to read about. There will be extensive diary listings which I will be updating on the artsbeat website (when I have created it) and plenty of news articles about what’s going on in the county.
I have plenty of other fun ideas for the magazine which will help promote the arts to residents and visitors alike and I will reveal more about them as the project develops.
Over the next few weeks I will be getting out and about meeting people and gathering ideas for future features. I am looking forward to meeting lots of new interesting people. Watch this space to see how I get on and in the meantime if you want to contact me with ideas or to find out about advertising rates email me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
